This is an old revision of the document!
Medical Students can put a table of contents here with tips for future students.
Students should update Epic
Students should put in the social history and update the hospital course. Most of the social history will come from calling close contacts and gathering collateral information. If you need a translator to talk to a family member. Use one of the hospital phones and dial 9-210-358-1100. Follow the prompts. The translator will then dial the party you are looking for (the family member you are calling for collateral.)
Update signout
- On the S drive, please update your patient's signout.
- To get to the S drive, open the documents file folder from the desktop. Click This PC, then click data (\\uhsdata) (S:), then click managed, then click Psychiatric Services, then click ed materials, and then click Hand Off. Open the file called Database1. If you do not have access to this file, you can ask Melissa, the Care Coordinator for help. Once you do have access to the file called Database1 (this is the signout), be sure to add yourself as the student to the appropriate team. In order to do this, open signout and click the button that says “Edit Team Assignments.” Pick your team color (if you do not have a color team assigned yet, a resident will assign you to a team on your first day). In the row that says “students,” click “add” and add your name and year (ie MS3).
Social Documentation
- Press the triangle button near the top right of the screen to get to the history menu.
- You can add in the social history information in the social documentation section.
- You can pull in the social history with the .psysocdoc dot phrase.
Hospital Course
- Please update in s drive.
- Hospital Courses are located on S:\managed\Psychiatric Services\ed materials\Hospital Course under your team color and Month.
- The resident can copy the hospital course into epic. The hospital course section is hidden above the problem list.
- Click the problem list tab and scroll up to reveal the hospital course section.
Hospital Course tips
You do not need to include every prn and order. The hospital course needs to communicate the major events during the hospitalizations. This often includes consults, medical issues, and a general idea of patients response to medications. A risk assessment should also be included.
